UNSW had a satisfying day in Canberra over the weekend, coming away with some good results from the ACT Open. Because of the COVID restrictions this was only the second major national level competition, after the Sydney International. Entry numbers were good across the board, and there was some spectacular judo on display. With four mat areas operating, our coaches Ivica and JB were kept busy all day.
Once again Angus Hutcheon continues to show his promise, taking gold in both the cadet and junior men's 60kg, with some terrific judo and some monumental battles. In the cadets Angus defeated clubmate Elijah Raif, who also looked good, in the final.
It was gold also to Caspar D'Alton, showing some good judo, in the senior boys 66kg. Little brother Otis also scored a medal with bronze in the junior boys 34kg.
We also had silver medals to Aidan Miu (cadet 73kg) and Pietro Menga (Jun men 73kg). Very pleasing to see these two amongst the results.
Dylan Katz had a busy day, competing in all three age divisions...cadets, Jun men and senior men. Dylan saved his best for last, taking bronze in the seniors.
Thanks to all our members and parents who made the trip to Canberra. Unfortunately not all were able to make the podium, but gained valuable competition experience. Sadly, we had no girls or women competing...next time girls! ... See MoreSee Less
